4th & 5th Grade Strings Concert

Description
Dear Parents/Guardians of fourth and fifth grade students, The Roger Sherman Elementary School Spring Concert will be presented on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. All fifth graders are expected to participate in the chorus portion of the concert and all fifth grade strings and band students are expected to participate as well. Fourth grade string students will also be performing. This concert is held at the high school due to the large number of students performing, to ensure there is enough seating for the audience. There will also be an in-school concert for the faculty, staff, and students on the same day. Performing is part of our music curriculum here in Fairfield. The evening concert is similar to a final project for the students, and is an opportunity to show what they have learned over the previous months and how hard they have worked. As performing with either chorus or strings is a cooperative team-learning situation, the quality of our performance depends on our entire team being present and working together. If you are aware of a viable reason that your student will not be in attendance, please notify Ms. Trunk as soon as possible. As in the past, I know I can count on your support and cooperation. I would like to request that: All students should dress appropriately for both the in-school concert and the evening concert. For the evening concert, students should wear a white dress shirt and black dress pants. Girls may wear a skirt or dress if they choose, but please avoid shoes with heels as they present a safety hazard on the choral risers. Boys may wear a tie and jacket if they choose. No blue jeans please, and no sneakers if possible. For the in-school concert, students should wear their Fifth Grade Sherman t-shirt, or a blue shirt. 4th grade students can wear Sherman spirit wear if they have any! If your family is experiencing a financial hardship that makes it difficult to meet the dress code, please contact our building social worker. Strings students should arrive at 6:15 pm to allow for enough time to unpack, tune, and run through our pieces on stage beforehand. Details regarding where to unpack and leave instruments will be sent out the week before the concert. The concert will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. To ensure that our performers have the best experience possible, please remember that there is no flash photography, turn off all cell phones or put them in silent mode during the performance, and keep all children not in the concert away from the performance area. I am enjoying working with the fourth and fifth graders and am confident that they will present an excellent program. If you have a conflict or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school via email at jtrunk@fairfieldschools.org
